Woofing it up at ballgame.
ARLINGTON - Nearly 100 hot dogs and their humans parked their buns in the stands at Ameriquest Field on Wednesday, part of the Texas Rangers' first-ever Dog Days bring-your-pet promotion. Peter Hurd of Dallas bragged that his whippets Avery and Lily were perfectly capable of contributing to the game-winning effort as the Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 8-1. "You let 'em loose on that field, and they'd outrun Kevin Mench," he said. Two-year-old Woody, at 14 pounds, represented the less-buff mutts. "He's a Boston terrier, but he hates the Red Sox," assured owner Ken Krizan of Garland as the pair relaxed in the "cool room" before the game. Barry, a 10-month-old bull mastiff from Paris, spent his pregame down- time feeding his 100-pound physique. Some humans were there simply to fetch, such as the owner of Pet Butler, Matt Boswell, a self-described "fecal matter removal technician." The Rangers hired Boswell to pick up after the, uh, seventh-inning stretch.
